2015 Video ContestThe College Internship Program (CIP) is gearing up for their popular Summer Programs which provide unique opportunities for high school students and young adults with learning differences. Students will get a sneak peek at college life on one of six college campuses across the US. Since transitions can be difficult for young adults with learning differences, Summer@CIP can help them to prepare for what’s in store as they move to the next stage of their lives. Participants will also have many opportunities to build new friendships and have fun.

This year, CIP is awarding three $1,000 scholarships to individuals who would like to attend the 2015 Summer Program. The grand prize winner will also receive a GoPro Hero. Contestants must submit an original 1-3 minute video explaining why they want to attend Summer@CIP. Submissions are due April 17, 2015. Visit www.cipsummer.com for the full contest details.

Since 2009, CIP’s Summer Programs have helped hundreds of students prepare for their next steps, whether it is attending a college, entering the workforce, or continuing on to a specialized post-secondary program. In past years, participants have hailed from over 30 states and Puerto Rico as well as Antigua, Germany, Hong Kong, Jordan, Spain, and Thailand.

The programs take place at six highly-rated college and university locations including Florida Institute of Technology; Bard College at Simon’s Rock; University at Buffalo; Cal State University, Long Beach; University of California, Berkeley; and Indiana University, Bloomington. The High School Summer Program accepts participants entering 10th, 11th and 12th grades in the Fall, as well as recent high school graduates. The Beyond High School Summer Program is open to high school graduates up to age 26.

Summer programming is based on curriculum from CIP’s year round program, which has served young adults age 18-26 since 1984. Summer participants will be introduced to CIP’s comprehensive curriculum which provides an individualized approach to independent living, college, and the development of important life skills.

Classes include social thinking, time management, organization and person-centered planning. The summer program also focuses on independent living skills such as cooking, banking and budgeting, laundry and more.

A variety of fun activities are planned during each session. Participants will spend time outdoors hiking, swimming and exploring local highlights. Staff organize events such as ropes courses, theme park trips and professional sports outings which serve as experiential learning opportunities in a fun and relaxed setting. Just like college, summer participants will also have plenty of scheduled down time to relax and socialize.

Students who attend Summer@CIP can expect experienced instructors and cutting-edge programming in a college setting. Participants must apply and meet CIP’s admissions requirements in order to be found eligible to attend. Space is limited.
