Transitioning to Summer Break

CIP Berkeley

As the end of our CIP spring term wraps up, we wanted to offer some helpful tips and resources to make the transition process a little smoother for you and your students.

At our CIP Berkeley Center, we are preparing to invite families to campus for end-of-term meetings and our Convocation celebration. Students are busy putting the final photographic and illustrative touches on their PCPs and a series of video sketches for Convocation. Apartments are being cleaned out, and students transitioning on to the next exciting steps in their lives are gifting possessions to their peers. It is a time of wrapping up, reflecting on the past, and looking forward to the future.

We have witnessed many students grow into themselves this year, taking the courageous step to pursue new interests and explorations. Whether it’s horseback riding, trying new fruits and vegetables, attending the Birthright trip, or declaring a new major in college, our students have taken the skills they’ve learned in each department at CIP and applied them to their lives and their futures.

Transitioning home for breaks can be a difficult process for our students. Although they are excited about the time off and seeing their families, they lose a lot of the structure and support that has helped them to be successful throughout the year. We try to make this transition as easy as possible at each of our CIP centers, and there are ways you can help with this process as well.

As we move into the summer break, students employ their multiple EF skills in determining how their routines will change while they’re on vacation. They’ll collect their grades from the spring term, and prepare for summer academic courses. Most importantly, we encourage students to keep to a lightened daily schedule of essential tasks while also using the time to make plans with old friends and spend time with family.

We wish all CIP students and families a pleasant and enjoyable summer break, and look forward to welcoming them back to campus for our summer term in June!
