Students and Staff Speak out about Transition

The following is a special needs program update from College Living Experience | CLE | Choose Your Future. You may also click here to read the original article on the program’s website.

We asked students and staff members at CLE Austin, “What is one piece of advice you would have given yourself before starting college or CLE?” Here are some words of wisdom for incoming students transitioning to college, CLE, and adult life.

From Our Students

Keep an organized study/work schedule, which includes working ahead from the first day of class.

Do not stress; just go with the flow!

Listen to other people; you’re not always right.

I would have told myself not to go into a career in math.

[Don’t psych] yourself out.

Put all of your effort into passing a class, not just the minimum needed to pass.

Get used to your new daily routine.

Keep calm and keep being awesome and if necessary, turn on the Bat Signal.

Don’t take Japanese; take Latin instead. Also, don’t take Trig.

Don’t be afraid of the changes; embrace them.

Two words: Don’t procrastinate.

Be a kid at heart. -Ryan

CLE Austin

From Our Staff

Never be mean.
-David, Tutor

You only get to do college once. Make sure that you reach a balance among your academics, living activities, and socialization. Most importantly, appreciate that these can be the some of the best years of your life.
-Scott, Director of Psychological Services

Have fun. You get to be an adult for the rest of your life; this is your last chance to be a kid.
-Josh, Resident Advisor

Be open to new people, activities, and ideas.
-Amanda, Mentor

If you have the time, take classes that interest you even if you can’t think of how they’ll be useful for your degree plan or current career goals. You never know what they might lead to down the road.
-Mary, Campus and Community Liaison
