Social Activity: Swellness at the Farm

The following is a special needs program update from Asperger’s & LD College Programs. You may also click here to read the original article on the main program website.

Developing social skills and social thinking is an important piece of independent life. A student’s social and emotional growth precedes all other growth. An active social life is also an important component of CIP’s curriculum. Students have the opportunity to develop lasting friendships through planned weekly recreational activities including musical performances, sporting events, museums and outdoor activities.

For CIP Amherst’s social activity, students went to the farm for Swellness! The students reported this was one of their favorite activities by far, as well as one of the most educational. Seeing how they held baby farm animals, milk a goat, brush horses, go on a wagon ride and learn how the farm operates during the seasons, we can see how they had so much fun!
