Mploy at CIP Long Beach

Mploy Day 1

CIP has launched a new employment readiness program, Mploy, for young adults age 18-26 with autism and other learning differences. The session is currently in full swing, with housing aboard the Queen Mary ship in Long Beach, CA. The curriculum is based on the career skills development and life skills training currently offered at CIP’s comprehensive year-round programs. Mploy is designed for young adults who are interested in entering the workforce and transitioning to independent living.

During day one, students enjoyed a scenic breakfast buffet on the Queen Mary followed by a tour of the ship. Students then traveled to the CIP Long Beach center for a Mexican Fiesta, where they got a tour of the center and had the opportunity to meet most of the staff and learn a bit about what they do.

With the help of the Career Coordinator and Social Thinking Coordinator, students were able to role play and complete some career assessments. This provided some students with direction and others with confirmation on what they may be interested in pursuing in the future.

The day ended with a nice dinner, a walk along the shoreline, and some window shopping.

All of the students are all settling in and becoming more comfortable and social with each other. We have already seen students initiating conversations, including peers in conversation, and helping out one another in stressful situations.

They are very excited for tomorrow’s tour of Power 106.
