Holiday travel organizationStudents are eagerly awaiting the end of final exams and looking forward to a little rest and relaxation. Many are traveling home, and will need some help to get organized for their trip. This month, we decided to share some quick tips about travel planning and packing this holiday season.

  1. Look up the weather for where you will be visiting, and view the 5 day or 10 day forecast.  Take note of high and low temperatures, or any bad weather headed your way.
  2. Check in with who your are visiting to see if there are special considerations for what to bring, like a nice shirt and tie or dress or if you can wear casual clothing
  3. Identify the day and time of your flight and arrange your transportation to the airport (taxi, public transportation, a friend).
  4. Start a list on your phone or pad of paper and write the total number of days you will be gone at top. Include in your list items such as:
  5. Holiday Travel packing list

  6. Gather all of your items for the number of days you have at the top of your list (e.g. 5 days, 5 pairs underwear). Each time you put an item in your suitcase cross it off the list.
  7. If you are carrying your suitcase on the plane, put your liquid, aerosol, and gel  items in a clear, one-quart size bag so that you can pull them out at security
  8. Get together carry-on items like a purse or backpack , computer, a book or activity, and any personal items you need like medicine or non-liquid snacks.
  9. Last – make sure you have your ID and plane information ready. Plan to get to the airport 1.5-2 hour before the flight to get through holiday security lines on time.
