Dr. Stephen Shore Visits CIP Brevard

CIP Brevard was extremely fortunate to have Dr. Stephen Shore visit their center for a few days. He interacted with the students and staff, engaged in focus group discussions, shared knowledge and experiences, but most importantly endorsed the effectiveness our program.

On his last day, he held a training for the public, Success with Autism: Using Strengths for Achieving Fulfilling & Productive Lives — Just Like Everyone Else. Through an autobiographical framework, Dr. Shore’s presentation addressed issues facing students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other Learning Differences, including self-advocacy, sensory issues, and success in higher education.

Nonverbal until four, and with much help from his parents, teachers, and others, Dr. Shore completed his doctoral dissertation at Boston University focused on matching best practice to the needs of people on the autism spectrum. Currently, Dr. Shore teaches courses in special education and autism at Adelphi University.
