CIP Long Beach Volunteers with Dream Catcher Ranch

CIP Long Beach Student Emily H (in black tank top) returns to the CIP Blog with another community service activity:

I decided I wanted to reach the goal of planning and leading another community service event. I talked about planning the event in my individual career module. At first, I reached out to different organizations but the dates did not match my schedule and the replies from organizations were very slow. I then started discussing organizations we have worked with in the past and what events students enjoyed. My career coordinator and I came up with Dream Catcher, since many students enjoy volunteering with the horses. I then emailed Dream Catcher and set up a date and time, as well as created a student sign-up sheet. I also made announcements during the weekly student forum to recruit students. As the event got closer, we emailed the students reminders about the event. On the day of the event, my fellow students and I walked the two mini ponies, groomed the larger horses, and picked up rocks around the arena to make room for a conference event. I enjoyed myself and gained planning and organizational skills from working on this goal.

Way to go Emily! You can read about her previous community service activities here.
