CIP Brevard Recognizes Local Business Partners

At our annual CIP Brevard award ceremony on Friday, May 6th, staff had an opportunity to recognize student accomplishments as well as thank all of the businesses and organizations who have supported our students with internship and work opportunities. Special congratulations to Val Citta at the Brevard County Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) and Pam Rogan at Harmony Farms for each receiving our CIP Brevard 2016 Outstanding Internship Sponsor award. DNR has sponsored CIP Brevard interns for 7 years and Harmony Farms has provided internship opportunities for the past 5 years. Jean Galvin also accepted our Platinum Level Internship Sponsor award (for providing internships for over 10 years) for the Brevard Zoo.

Val Citta, who currently supervises Benny and Alex at DNR, said, “the thing I enjoy the most about working with CIP students is that I believe I learn as much or more from them than they learn from me. When a student struggles with a task or performs work differently that I expect, it tells me that I have failed to translate expectations. It forces me to consider a better way to communicate the directions of the task or have a conversation with the student about their own challenges and interests even. It keeps me sharp and reminds me to live outside my own head!”

Also, special thanks to Career Source (Rockledge) who received the 2016 Outstanding Member of the Community award for providing career preparation and work experience opportunities as part of their NextGen program. The staff at Career Source have gone above and beyond to assist our CIP Brevard students and we are so appreciative.
