CIP Berkeley Academic Update

The following is a special needs program update from Asperger’s & LD College Programs. You may also click here to read the original article on the program’s website.

The Academic Department continues to focus on assisting students with planning/mapping out study time and teaching them the necessary tools to be successful. Students are taught how to schedule their exams through Disabilities Services so they received appropriate accommodations. Another big focus is on assisting and encouraging students to maintain communication with their professors for important updates and to address any issues or concerns in their classes.

Students also worked on a reframing project called “All About Me”, which is a PowerPoint presentation that focused on the topic of self-disclosure and aims to introduce the student to their professor. The PowerPoint contained important information their professor would need to know such as; their strengths and challenges, and any accommodations needed.

For spring 2015, we are currently in the process of reaching out to the DSRC office at UC Berkeley and trying to find prospective interns with the appropriate background. The ultimate goal is to have these interns work closely with the Academic department as tutors and support our students with many different issues that come up throughout the academic year.
