Brian P. earns notice as a “go-to-guy” at the Southern Arizona VA!

Brian Loves his job at the VA!

Brian P. has become “the go-to-guy” in his new kitchen job at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System.

“Brian is a dependable employee and never calls out – he is to the go-to guy to cover shifts,” stated Canteen Chief Robert Hapchuck.

Our current Work Place Wednesday feature, Brian is a Chapel Haven West community member who first interned in the kitchen at the VA and did so well, he was hired upon his graduation.

“My favorite part about working at the VA is helping the customers, the veterans, and my coworkers,” Brian said. Brian’s excellent work ethic and willingness to help shines through at his job at the VA. His supervisors continue to praise him and provide him the feedback that aids in his success.

Brian enrolled in Chapel Haven West in July 2015, where he proceeded through the two-year residential program learning and implementing independent living skills, social communication skills, and last, but certainly not least, vocational skills. Brian was placed at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) as an intern in his second year for work study working in the kitchen. He utilized the skills through his program at CHW to prove his ability to work effectively. The management team at the VA believed Brian proved himself well that upon graduation from CHW Brian was offered a paid position as a Kitchen Associate.

Chapel Haven West Job Coach Tanisha Carter reports that the management team at the VA has taken note of Brian’s positive attitude and get-it-done demeanor.

Assistant Canteen Chief, Bruce Robinson stated, “Although Brian needs some coaching on occasion to ensure he stays focused when working on the line so patrons are not waiting – he implements the coaching and feedback from us right away with a positive attitude.”
