Berkshire Update 2015: Career Department Expands Employment Opportunities

The following is a special needs program update from Asperger’s & LD College Programs. You may also click here to read the original article on the program’s website.

Berkshire_CareerThe CIP Berkshire Career Department is continuing to expand their network of opportunities and nurture student talents while exposing them to the varied responsibilities of the working world. We have expanded our network of internship sites and continue to focus on connections that provide our students the real world experience in the field of their choice.

One example is the Railroad Street Youth Project apprenticeships in Culinary Arts. RSYP’s signature Culinary Arts Program engages the support of many local area chefs and restaurants. Students meet one day a week in the Red Lion Inn Restaurant to learn the skills necessary for gainful employment. New this fall is collaboration with the Barrington Stage Company, where selected students are exposed to the inner workings of a production company. New sites also include Abbott’s Limousine Service, AdLib, Cake Walk, Salmon Run, and Lee County Ambulance.

Students have been engaged in career related classes that include Social & Interpersonal Skills, Introduction to the World of Work, Career Skills and Critical Thinking. All of our students have been working very hard to complete resumes, cover letters and focusing on the skills they need to obtain employment.
