2013 Bowlathon huge success, $32K raised

The following is a special needs program update from Chapel Haven. You may also click here to read the original article on the program’s website.

Chapel Haven’s 9th Annual Bowl-a-thon took place on Saturday, Oct 5 at Amity Lanes and was a resounding success, raising more than $32,000 in funds to be earmarked for technology.

“We were well represented with over 130 bowlers who were accompanied by many family and friends.  With the help of our major donors, along with the student and family fundraising efforts, Chapel Haven raised over $32,000 which will be going toward
technological improvements throughout the Chapel Haven campus!  The lanes were filled with suspense as we raffled off various prizes from jewelry, to theme baskets created by the Chapel Haven departments,  to a weekend in the Berkshires,” according to Michael Verzella, supervisor of recreation and operations and the main mover and shaker behind the Bowl-A-Thon.

Michael  Storz, President of Chapel Haven even issued a challenge to treat the student who bowled the highest score to lunch!  The winner was Richard, who bowled an impressive 166!!!!!!! Mike will be treating him to dinner at the Rib House in East Haven, CT.

After the Bowl-a-thon, students and families returned to the Chapel Haven campus to take part in a “Bowl-a-thon
Barbecue” which took place in our courtyard on a picture-perfect day!  Mike Storz helped to man the grills along with many of the dedicated recreation staff.  Shelly Hartz and Mary Doherty (Bowl-a-thon co-chairs) helped to serve the side dishes, while Andrew Baum (one of our Bridge Students) helped to hand
out drinks.  Following the barbecue and to cap off the day, students took part in a dance in our Outreach Center.

From the infamous YMCA dance to Justin Moore (Bridge Student) doing his rendition of “Gangnam Style,” everyone had a great time dancing the night away.  Please check out our Facebook page to
