Life Development Institute offers internationally recognized residential programs and fully-accrediated high school, college and career-focused for young adults with Learning Disabilities, Asperger’s ADHD, Autism and similar conditions.

High School Program

The purpose and intent of the LDI High School program is to provide an innovative pathway toward students receiving internationally recognized, fully-accrediated high school diploma — not a certificate of attendance or completion. The high school program does not restrict or limit personal growth and development to only academic pursuits. In addition, academic curriculum and methodologies provide students with an opportunity to concurrently gain work experience, begin to plan a career and take dual enrollment courses at the local community college. Students enrolled in this program also experience independent-living while assuming some financial responsibilities AND earn a high school diploma at the same time!

Post-Secondary Program

The LDI Post-Secondary Program identifies a challenging set of goals that focus on learning and achievement for all adults, not just those with hidden disabilities. Its instructional focus is on developing practical skills, experiencing and demonstrating consistent performance in the handling of common problem solving and decision making demands necessary for adult-life success. Thus, this course of study emphasizes those major life demands of adult functioning that require certain degrees of independence and personal competency in adult, workplace and academic proficiencies.

International Program

Intensive English as a Second Language programs, state-of-the-art computer labs, an excellent & safe apartment complex where you live with other students while attending college, career exploration opportunities, special international student advisors and a Diversity Center to meet other students, are all available for international students. Studying at The Life Development Institute International Student Program will help advance your career more than studying in any other country. Businesses in your country recognize the quality of a U.S. education. LDI classes are small and mirror the workplace.

About LDI

The compelling drive to find one’s own way in the world is no less strong in those with learning and neurodiversity issues than in any other young adult. Few other “journeys” are more important, or more difficult than those of seeking successful adulthood. For many, the need to prove themselves remains strong throughout life. The LDI is a beacon of hope for older adolescents and adults who struggle with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, Autism spectrum disorders and other related conditions.

Together with a competent and dedicated staff of caring professionals, the program strives to achieve its Mission. The LDI staff and its administrators are devoted to actively work with and support parents who are eager for a place where their adult-child can thrive and succeed. Families look to LDI for hope and support, as seemingly there are few other viable resources for their children. LDI strives to ease the difficult transition for the parent from being their adult-child’s advocate to being a parent who can empower their offspring to become more independent.

Student Life

The LDI program philosophy and approach believes it is important for an adult to be given opportunities to have both structured and unstructured time outside of regular class, work, or program obligations. This helps students learn how to balance their day and week as well as learn to be assertive and disciplined for meeting personal and program requirements.

Students will have a variety of routinely structured activities such as regular class times, work schedules, college classes, community classes, weekly shopping, apartment management, LDI social/recreational activities, appointments with staff, and course tutoring.

Residential Services

LDI students live alone in one bedroom apartments or in two-bedroom apartments with a roommate paired by age, lifestyle and temperament. Students are assisted through one-on-one mentoring and modeling in areas of health care, medication management, personal hygiene, time management and organizational skills.

The purpose of Residential Services is to provide an interdependent and independent living environment. The plan helps students to acquire levels of self-sufficiency and other-relatedness through experiential learning and practical application. The overall goal is to develop and acquire adult life skills and their processes.

The intent is to offer residential living in an adult community environment, where each student lives as part of the community, as opposed to living in a segregated, therapeutic, or dorm-like setting. As a performance-based program, LDI promotes responsible adult behavior by creating a living environment that places personal lifestyle decisions and choices in the hands of the students.
