The Emerging Leaders Summer Academy provides an ideal transitional bridge to higher education is ideal for juniors entering their senior year or young adults recently graduated from high school with LD, ADHD, NVLD, Asperger’s syndrome and similar social or learning difficulties. Summer Academy participants are non-traditional learners, who have a broad range of relative academic and personal strengths as well as unique learning styles. The Summer Academy will help prepare them for the next stages of their higher -education and life experiences. A specialized approach to learning through specific strategies designed to harness the potential of each person’s learning styles, and how to ask for accommodations in post secondary settings.

Surrounded by the largest Ponderosa pine forest in the United States, where the average summer temperature is in the 70’s with cool crisp mountain air, Academy participants will have an opportunity to experience college life for 5 weeks on the Northern Arizona University campus in Flagstaff, AZ from June 15 – July 19, 2014. 

LDI Summer Emerging Leaders also have a unique opportunity to learn and practice leadership, diversity and cultural skills usually offered only in the corporate/business community. These skill sets help prepare them for working effectively in team-based settings, group facilitation skills, responsibilities of being a manager, and what it means to “walk the talk” of personal leadership.

The five-week Academy helps prepare students for college and university by: 

  • Building personal and group leadership abilities
  • Developing social confidence and competence with college peers
  • Improving college-level academic preparation
  • Experiencing college life by living on the NAU campus 
  • Having a blast exploring the many magnificent sites and attraction in Northern Arizona
